Introduction

As I continue building my skills in OSINT, I want to better understand how different intelligence disciplines fit together. I am familiar with OSINT, but I’ve seen terms like HUMINT, SIGINT, etc. I want to understand what each discipline contributes to an investigation.

Part 1: Core INTs

Part 2: Sub-Disciplines

Part 3: How they differ from one another

According to the DNI site, these are the basic and core types of intelligence. Different INTs fall under these disciplines.

Here is an overview of these INTs:

SIGINT| Signals Intelligence: the process of collecting information from electronic signals, transmissions, and information systems. The NSA is responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting it.

IMINT | Imagery Intelligence: the process of collecting information from visual data, such as photographs, satellites, radar sensors, and other sources. The NGA is responsible for IMINT activities.

MASINT | Measurement & Signature Intelligence: the process of detecting, tracking, and identifying
